When it comes to two-wheel adventures, The Tweed is a true bush to beach biking destination. Whether you want to feel deep in nature and still ride full send downhill on dirt trails and rough terrain, or you want to cruise at a leisurely pace along flat, smooth beachside paths away from busy roads, there is a trail, track, road or pathway for every cyclist on The Tweed, and you will find them right on the doorstep of our 7 holiday parks.
Here are just a few of our favourites to get you started.
The Family Biker
Maybe you’ve got a little one riding tandem with you in a bike seat, or a terror toddler on training wheels. You want to cruise flat, smooth paths away from busy roads. Well, this is as leisurely as it gets. Pack a picnic and head to the Kingscliff Coastline Cycleway. The 33-kilometre point to point pathway stretches from Pottsville to Tweed Heads passing by many beaches, rivers, boardwalks, casuarina trees and cafes for that much needed pit-stop. Breathe in the fresh salty air as you peddle along paralell to the beach, and enjoy the picturesque scenery. This is not a path for speed demons, in fact some sections are mainly used for pedestrians, so you will need to use some caution. With the ability to jump on and off the pathway as you please, you don’t have to spend hours in the saddle and your journey can be as challenging or as cruisy as you like!
The Mountain Bike Enthusiast
Straight, paved roads aren’t your thing – you prefer dirt trails, rough terrain and forest all around. Get set to launch yourself into an epic mountain bike adventure. Set amongst the stunning backdrop of Wollumbin / Mt Warning in the Tweed Valley, the Uki Mountain Bike Park will have you peddling to the max, leaving the dust behind you. It covers more than 6.4 kilometres and includes eight mountain bike trails and a pump track. All trails have been constructed to International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) trail construction standards. There is one climbing trail (green) and seven descending trails.
Three green trails (beginner)
Three blue trails (more difficult)
One black diamond trail (very difficult).
The pump track is for all ages but specifically designed for kids aged 5 12 years. The network includes natural terrain, constructed technical features, obstacles, drop-offs, bridges and steep land.
The Social Peddler
Cycling along the Tweed Coastline is the perfect way to explore our beautiful region, not to mention the many local craft breweries and cafes on offer. For a truly unique experience, look out for the Northern Rivers Rail Trail. The abandoned rail corridor has been converted to a shared trail from Murwillumbah to Casino, with the 24 kilometre Tweed section from Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek now open. Meander through picturesque countryside, passing through numerous rural villages, 18 historic railway bridges, 2 tunnels and charming country towns. The world class Rail Trail doesn't just provide a new and interesting place to ride and rub shoulders with a keen and friendly local bike community, it connects communities and towns, winding through Stokers Siding, Burringbar and Mooball, and supporting eco-tourism and host communities.
Cycling is not only excellent for your health and wellbeing, but also a great way to have fun and keep fit.
If you don’t own a bike, don’t worry. You can hire your pushy at our Kingscliff North and Kingscliff Beach holiday parks.
What are you waiting for? Pump up your tyres, lube your chain, clip up your helmet and get ready to ride. Now is the perfect time to book your stay in one of our 7 holiday parks and explore our backyard bike treasures.
